Valley Snow Travelers Club is located on Rector Road, in Martinsburg, New York. The scenic vistas through the North Country and the Tug Hill Plateau are a winter haven of fun for the snowmobile enthusiast.
We are over 700 members strong and growing every year. Our membership is comprised of individuals as well as entire families. Our club maintains approximately 72 miles of groomed trails with over 20 miles on Private Lands. Our trails also interconnect to other club maintained trails encompassing miles and miles of pure riding fun.
Our club maintains and operates two groomer units during the winter season in an effort to keep the snowmobile trail system in tip top shape. All trails are visibly identified for the snowmobiler's convenience and riding adventure.
Snow sledding on Tug Hill has changed over the past 36 years. In 1970 there were not the trails there are today. The trails that existed quickly became bumpy and snowmobiler's found it difficult to travel any distance.
A group of local snowmobile enthusiasts (commonly referred to as sledders) banded together to improve the trail conditions. Their enthusiasm compensated for the lack of resources. A club consisting of about 25 held their first meeting, elected officers, and volunteers signed on to work and improve the trail system. They called themselves the Valley Snow Travelers.
In the early years a machine dragging a set of bedsprings groomed the trails. In 1972 the first groomer was purchased by the membership and donations. Today we groom approximately all of the trail system with two hi-tech computerized Bombardier groomers. Our membership is exstensive encompassing the North Country as well as from all over New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
Equally important to the history and future of the club is the support of individuals and families, along with club fundraisers that enable the Valley Snow Travelers to maintain the grooming equipment and the trail system. It is important to understand that our club is also involved in community events such as sponsoring the youth snowmobile safety course and benefit dances for Christmas Charities.
Special thanks, to the people who have served or are currently serving as President of our club. The club's first President Sam Villanti, followed by Fred Tabolt, Andy Tarasek, Dick Witcher, Martin Beyer, John Bergen and our current president, Bill Tarasek.
Thanks to our dedicated groomer operators, and volunteers that help clear and mark the trails each year so we are able to enjoy this great sport.
Please remember to respect the land, ride with respect for others, obey the signs and stay on the marked trails.
Thank you and enjoy the sport of snowmobiling.
